HARBIN (Haerbin) is the capital of Heilongjiang Province and probably the most northernmost location that most tourists visit. A city of distinctive character, Harbin is a good place to visit for its winter atmosphere. Boulevards are lined with European-style buildings and white doves flutter their wings in the skyline of the St. Sofia church. Even though the weather can be very cold, the annual ice lantern festival brings many tourists each year, and the outside influence on this city make it a fascinating place to visit. Harbin has lots to offer for anyone interested in history, since both Russia and Japan have had a big influence over this citys history and architecture, helping it to become the thriving city that it is today. Also wishing to travel on the Trans-Siberian Railway will probably pass though here.

In fact Harbin is not as cold as imagined but you should still prepare. What to bring: Down coats, warm trousers, hat, scarf, gloves, hand lotion, and lipbalm. Thermals are also a good idea and can be easily bought in China. You should be able to buy some warm snow boots to keep your feet warm. Note: In winter in Harbin, the cold can affect your camera, so please be careful not to let your camera freeze!
Harbin Climate Harbin is the most northeastern and coldest provincial capital in China. The city has a long cold winter and short cool summers. Snow starts as early as November and the coldest month is January. The best time to visit Harbin is between December and February, when this city is a fantastic world of snow and ice. However you need to make sure you are prepared with plenty of layers of warm clothing, and know that is impossible to stay outside for extended periods of time. Between July and September, Harbin can be a cool summer resort.
